Pisco is a national alcohol of Peru. It was main topic of discussion between Chile and Peru who invented it. At the end this battle has been won by Peru and nowadays nobody question that pisco is coming from here. Peruvians are very proud of this grape alcohol. They have even national day of this drink. It is always last Sunday of July. National Pisco Day has been celebrated since 1999. In 2017 Pisco has been selected as National Heritage of the Nation. What Peruvians drink?
There is another drink connected with Pisco which is also popular. This is cocktail called pisco sour.
From where pisco sour recipe is coming from?
History of this cocktail is connected with Peru capital, Lima and with bar called Morris, which does not exist anymore. That is the place where you could try this unusual drink since 1916. First recipe did not last long. After closing bar in 1929 the recipe has been improved and they started to serve it in Maury hotel. Everything because of the bartender – Peruvian Mario Bruiget who has moved here from Morris bar.
Another famous place serving pisco sour was Bolivar hotel located close to San Martin square. This place has been considered as temple of this drink back then.
Apart from classic pisco sour nowadays you can find many variations of this drink, also based on local fruits.
Pisco sour similar to clean pisco got its national day as well. It is being celebrated first Saturday of February since 2004. This drink has been selected as National Heritage of the Nation as well.
Is it complicated to prepare pisco sour?
No. Only some patient is need and few ingredients. You need to find only necessary ingredients and you can taste Peruvian drink at any place of the world!
Main ingredients of the cocktail:
- Limon juice (Original drink needs to be made out of small lime which is incredibly sour. It is very important to add only first drops of the juice. Last ones are quite bitter)
- Jarabe do gome
- Egg white
