Peru is among others famous for the llamas and alpacas. You can meet them in a lot of places in Andes. But there is one thing which surprised me a lot. In Huaraz region, where the mountains are even higher then in Cusco region, you will not find llamas and alpacas. Instead the andean landscapes are full of cows.
So if you will go to Cusco region and you will do some trekkings, on the way, you will have possibility to see peruvian llamas and alpacas, like on the pictures below.
But if you are planning to visit Huaraz and Cordillera Blanca do not expect llamas and alpacas. Be prepared for the meetings with the cows. There are a lo of cows in the mountain. Some pictures of the landscapes from Cordillera Blanca with cows below.
