In the article „Where you can taste peruvian tea emoliente?” I wrote about the special herbal tea which you can find in a lot of peruvian cities on the street corners. Emoliente is served from the mobile street trucks, like the one you can see on the picture below.
But not only! Emoliente is also served in a special pubs called centro naturista. These places are very popular among the locals. Every day a lot of people come here to taste emoliente with other healthy, additional herbs/plants.
In Cusco for example you can find centro naturista on the market San Pedro (Mercado de San Pedro) near the city centre and on the market Wanchaq (Mercado de Wanchaq), which is a little bit farther from the city centre (usually not often visited by tourists).
In Huaraz there is a very famous and good centro naturista on the street Jr. San Martin N⁰ 363. Some pictures from this place you will find below.
In centro naturista you can buy a lot of herbal drinks based on emoliente tea. The price of each drink cost maximum 2 soles.
Actually centro naturista in Huaraz saved my life during my stay in this city and helped me regain strength before my mountaineering adventure to the Tocllaraju mountain.
Before my climbing tour to Tocllaraju, I caught the cold, and it was not sure if I will be strong enough to do it. To the expedition remained only a few days and I decided to do all my best to become healthy. Firstly I did small research and I got information about the special medical pub called centro naturista. My curiosity led me there the same day I heard about that place. For the next some days it become my main place to visit. I was walking there regularly twice a day.
Every time I ordered a special tea called macerado with an additional dose of special plant called alfalfa. It is a green liquid, very bitter but very healthy. Macerado was the best medical drink for sore throat and cold which I have tasted. Except alfalfa, which they served separately as a shot, it was really delicious beverage. Macerado drink consists of emoliente tea, extra dose of lemon and alcohol. Macerado contains alcohol, fairly large. You need to know that it is possible to get drunk, if you will drink some glasses of it. So be careful. Treat this beverage as a medicine, in the dose necessary to help you to get well, not as a drink which will help you to get drunk.
