Which of the canyons: Colca or Cotahuasi is the deepest is a matter of a dispute. For us, the argument does not matter too much, because we are checking closely both of those places. With the little effort of logistics planning, we can easily combine both attractions and enjoy them to the fullest. Moreover, we will enjoy the routes not very common among regular travel agencies in the region.
After a long day of visiting various attractions, you can always hop into the hot springs and relax a little. On this unique route, there is really lot of them. There will be always opportunity to take advantage of hot springs. They are present everywhere along the routes and the accompanying landscapes are truly beautiful.
Condors can be seen in many places – not only in the famous Colca Canyon. With a little bit of luck, we can observe them from two viewpoints, once in the famous Colca Canyon and for the second time in the Cotahuasi Canyon.
Puya Raimondii is a plant species, belonging to the bromeliad family. It can be found only at the heights from about 3200 to about 4800 m.a.s.l. in the Peruvian and Bolivian Andes. Puya Raimondii is the greatest representative of his family. Why should you care so much about this attraction? Those plants are impossible to encounter in other parts of the world. As soon as you arrive to Peru, it is important to know all the unique attractions. Such attractions include, among others, forests full of Puyas Raimondii. One of them is located in the Cotahuasi Canyon. We warmly invite you to go with us and check this amazing location. You can read more about Puya Raimondii on our blog here.
As we get to know the forests of the Cotahuasi canyon, it is worthwhile to visit the one where the giant cacti grow. The view is slightly different, but equally worth checking out! Giant cacti, growing from 5 cm to 15 m are possible to spot on the way between one of the waterfalls and the deepest point of the canyon. We highly recommend checking this amazing attraction during your whole day trip to the canyons.
Mauqallacta, which in Quechua means “old settlement” is a term attributed to numerous archaeological sites in Peru. The settlement that we include in our program of this expedition is special for many reasons. Firstly, the ruins are enormous. They include over 200 buildings. Secondly, it is a sacred place – not only for the Incas, but also for the earlier cultures. Third, it was the main sanctuary, visited by people from all over the region, by priests and also the rulers of the country. Here the sacrifices were made, including children. It was truly important place where religious and ceremonial life took place. Nevertheless, something else makes this place standing out from the crowd! It was found by a group of archaeologists from Poland, who for many years have been conducting research there, together with the Peruvian archaeologists of the University of Arequipa. I am always happy to hear about another success stories from my home country.
The Cotahuasi canyon is closely related to two cultures, namely the culture of Wari and Inami. Before coming to this unique place, we will also visit a place called Toro Muerto. It is a desert area in the area of a beautiful valley, where we can encounter many smaller and bigger stones. On some of them, you will be able to spot beautiful petroglyphs. It is not the easiest task to find them, but believe me; it is very rewarding and fun! Especially when you come across some really unique drawings. Who left those drawings and why? You will learn everything during our trip.
On one of our excursion parts you will enjoy the landscapes full of volcanoes. It is a picturesque area in the Andagua area. Looking at those landscapes you will feel literally, as in another dimension!
Exceptional and second largest city in Peru is definitely worth knowing! Therefore, it must be included in our package. What about the details of the program? Be prepared for seeing Juanita museum, Cathedral, viewpoints and volcanoes surrounding the city. In case you are very persistent, we prepared something special! We would also like to show you the place where the white sillar comes from. Thanks to that, you will not only see the individual buildings made from this material, but will also learn how it is created.
The trails that we are trekking on are full of those wonderful animals. Their quantity will surely exceed your expectations. You should check them out!
Everyone or at least almost everyone is visiting the lake from the side of Puno. We, in line with our vision, would like to see this place from different, more local and original perspective. Thanks to that, we gain completely different experiences.
What about our program for Lake Titicaca?
We will visit both the beautiful peninsula of Capachica, as well as the island of Amantani. Anyways, it is not everything. Expect local meetings, boat cruises, three Uros islands and our specialty – the mummy museum on one of the smallest islands of the lake!
